Columbus Crew SC’s midfielder Artur had a successful surgery on Monday after suffering a broken left wrist on Saturday night.
The procedure was completed by Dr. Marlo Van Steyn at Orthopedic One in Columbus, Ohio. A left distal radius fracture was corrected.
On the opening minute of Saturday’s game, the defensive midfielder spent several minutes down on the field after injuring his wrist.
Crew SC head coach Gregg Berhalter said, “It’s a shame that in the first minute that we had to substitute Artur. He’s been doing great so far and we were looking forward to seeing how he was going to react in this game.”
Artur joined Crew SC on loan from Sao Paulo FC for the 2017 MLS season in February, and it is his first season in MLS. The 21-year-old Brazilian player has seven starts in eight appearances and has one assist.
Artur is currently resting in Columbus. He will be sidelined for Crew SC’s upcoming three-match homestand.
