SANTA MONICA – Christian Pulisic shined as he helped lead the USMNT to a much needed 2-0 victory against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday.  Going into this World Cup Qualifier the USMNT really needed all three points, and that is just what they got.

It was a hard game from the start, with each team desperately needing the points to keep their World Cup dreams alive. Despite each team driving to score, the first half was a pretty slow one, ending in a 0-0 tie.

However, once the second half started, the USMNT turned the heat up and it was the Christian Pulisic show.  First, in minute 52, Deandre Yedlin made a beautiful cross in front of the goal and Pulisic was right there to redirect it in. This put the US up 1-0, but since they needed all 3 points from this game, the fight was far from over. Very soon after Pulisic’s goal, Trinidad and Tobago put the ball in the net and it appeared the game was tied up once again. However, the goal was discounted and called offside so the US was still in the lead.

Then, just 10 minutes after his first goal, Pulisic made that lead even more decisive by scoring once again, putting the USMNT up, 2-0. That was the last goal of the game, but it was all the US needed to give them 3 points and move them into third place in their bracket.

The fight, however, is still far from over as the US will take on the number one team in their bracket, Mexico, on Sunday at 5:30.
