First place North Carolina Courage beat third place Sky Blue FC yesterday 2-0, ruining Sky Blue’s two game winning streak.

Despite a valiant effort by Sky Blue FC goalie Kailen Sheridan, who broke the club’s NWSL record by making 11 saves, North Carolina just couldn’t be stopped.

It all started in the 20th minute, Lynn Williams stepped up to the plate, slamming a ball into the back side of the net for the Courage.  Then, in minute 41, just before the half ended, the Courage were back at it again.  This time Samantha Mewis got the goal, rebounding her own shot to put the Courage up 2-0.

The second half was a scoreless one, with both teams trying unsuccessfully to get a goal.  It was highlighted by save after save being made by Kailen, however it just wasn’t enough. The game ended 2-0 and the Courage got the win.

Next, Sky Blue FC will play Orlando Pride on Saturday at 4:00.  North Carolina will fight to keep their number one ranking as they take on the number two ranked Chicago Red Stars next Saturday at 1:00.
