SANTA MONICA – After a few tough losses, the San Jose Earthquakes were back at it Saturday night with a win.  They beat Real Salt Lake, 2-1.

The Quakes were strong right out of the gate, scoring their first goal in the 13th minute.  Nick Lima crossed the ball and Hoesen recovered it.  He then scored, putting the ball into the top corner of the net and putting the Quakes up 1-0.  Neither team was able to score for the rest of the first half.

It took until minute 68, and then the Quakes were back at it again.  This time, Hoesen sent the ball to Ureña who put it in the back of the net and doubled the Quakes lead, putting them up 2-0.

Real Salt Lake fought hard and although they finally did get a goal at the very end of the match, it was too little too late. In the last minute of stoppage time, Jose Hernandez slid past the defenders and scored for Real Salt Lake, saving them from being shut out.  The final score of the match was 2-1.

Next, San Jose will take on the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday at 7:30, and Real Salt Lake will face Orlando City on Friday at 6:30.
