SANTA MONICA- The USA, who finished first in the 2016 SheBelieves Cup traded in their champion status for last place this year after being crushed by France on Tuesday.  The game secured the championship trophy for France and marks the worst defeat the USA have endured since 2003.

With two early goals in the first 10 minutes of the game from France’s Camille Abily and Eugenie Le Sommer, the game looked bleak from the start. The USA never recovered and in the end were shut out 3-0 by France.  This does not look like a promising start to the 2017 season for the USWNT.

This game also marks a big change for team captain Carli Lloyd as she gears up for a move to England where she will be joining Manchester City Woman FC this Spring.  This is quite the change for the FIFA Woman’s Player of the Year who has played in the USA for the entirety of her career.

However, her move across the pond isn’t the only big news for star player Lloyd.  It was announced today that she was voted on FIFPro Woman’s World XI.  She will be joined by fellow players Hope Solo, Ali Krieger wand Alex Morgan.
