SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Once the smoke and confetti cleared from the pitch, the match was all about the Los Angeles Galaxy.  Galaxy haters were surprised that against the odds, the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated Real Salt Lake 3 – 1 last night at the Stub Hub Center in Torrance, California.

The usual star players didn’t score the goals though.  The first goal came in the 14′ and was made by 35 year-old Alan Gordon.  Despite being taken off in the 52′ due to an injury, Gordon make a great showing in his first post-season appearance.

The next two goals for the Galaxy were scored by Emmanuel Boateng.  Boateng, for his part, weaved, pivoted, and somehow found his way between the Real Salt Lake Defenders both in the 26′ and 34′ minutes.    Displaying an incredible amount of speed and ball control, Boateng played head-to-head with the larger Real Salt Lake Defenders showing that skill on the ball is often more important than size.

In a much contested PK, Real Salt Lake player, Joao Plata scored in the 21′ minute.

The Galaxy advance to the next match where they will host the Colorado Rapids on Sunday.
