SANTA MONICA – Despite a scoreless first half, Orlando City beat DC United on Wednesday, 2-0.

It was a slow game, with no one scoring until midway through the second half.  Although Orlando City did create some opportunities, it wasn’t until a free kick in minute 66 that they got on the board.  Johnson slammed the ball into the box where Cyle Larin headed it into the corner of the goal, putting Orlando up 1-0.

Then, in minute 74, it looked like DC United might just tie it up. Lamar Neagle managed to get around Orlando goalie Joe Bendik.  However, just then, Orlando defender Spector came in with a spectacular block that deflected upward off his foot.  Bendik zoomed back into the goal and, just in the nick of time, dove and blocked the subsequent shot.

Still in the lead 1-0, Orlando pushed ahead even more in minute 88.  Barnes booted a shot toward the goal that deflected off DC United goalie Hamid’s hands and went in.  The final score of the game was 2-0.

Next, DC United will take on the LA Galaxy, who is currently on a 3 game winning streak, on Saturday at 4:00.  Orlando City will play Chicago Fire on Sunday at 4:30.
