SANTA MONICA – The USMNT came out on top after their semi-final match against Costa Rica on Saturday, beating them 2-0.

The game had a slow start, with neither team scoring for the first 70 minutes. Despite the USMNT getting many promising chances on goal, it wasn’t until Clint Dempsey fed the ball to Jozy Altidore in minute 72, that they finally got a goal.

Dempsey, however, was just getting started, scoring a goal of his own just 10 minutes later. He took a free kick and put the ball into the back of the net, giving the the USMNT a 2-0 lead. Additionally this goal tied Dempsey with Landon Donavan’s scoring record for the most goals made for the USMNT.

The game wrapped up and the USMNT officially moved onto the Gold Cup finals.

The next day, Mexico, the favorite to win the tournament, took on Jamaica in their Gold Cup semifinal match. Mexico came up short, losing to Jamaica 1-0.

This game had a lot in common with the other semifinal match, as it too got off to a very slow start. Neither team was able to break through to make a goal for the first 88 minutes of match. Just as it was looking like no one would score, Lawrence took a free kick for Jamaica and put the ball in the back of the net.  That was the only goal scored and the game ended with Jamaica winning 1-0.

Next, the USMNT will take on Jamaica in the Gold Cup finals on Wednesday at 6:30
