Marta has arrived.  The five time consecutive FIFA world player of the year, who is often referred to as the best woman’s soccer player of all time, is arriving in Orlando today.  Two weeks ago, Orlando Pride signed Marta to a two-year contract with an option for a third.  Although they hoped she would arrive in time for their season opener game, her paperwork did not clear in time. However, come Saturday she will be out there on the field.

This is a big get for both Orlando and the NWSL. Ever since the announcement, hype surround the Pride have caused merchandise and tickets sales to go up.  Additionally, to have such a legendary player in the United States NWSL boosts the league as a whole.

Marta has won club level league championships in 10 of the last 12 years and will add her years of experience and superior ball handling skills to help Orlando Pride.  Last year they finished in second to last place, and they already are not off to a good start this year. They lost their season opener to the Portland Thorns.

This weekend, with Marta by their side, Orlando will take on Washington Spirit on Saturday, April 22nd, at 1:00.

Marta was named FIFA World Player of the Year 5 years in a row from 2006-2010.
